SOCIALISING INFORMATION

DESCRIPTION:

It is the process by which one discovers, learns and shares information of an environment, taking into account reciprocity as value. This tool is part of the ‘culture of recipes’, allowing us to be able to narrate, transfer and collectivise experiences and knowledge ‘in order to avoid our having to “reinvent everything” every time’ (Vercauteren & Crabbé & Müller).

INSTRUCTIONS:

Once the information/knowledge to be socialised has been detected and agreed upon, the next step is establishing with what people/collectives/communities we want or need to share this information. Afterwards, it is important to decide aspects of language, expression and format in which the information will be shared and transferred, aiming at it to be accessible for individuals and/or collectives we want it to reach. Once the information has been formalised so that it can be shared (physically or digitally), the process of transference of said information starts.

YOU WILL NEED:

A plan for organising the socialisation of information in an effective, ethical and sustainable way.

TIPS / CAVEATS:

It can be helpful to segment and choose accurately the people and/or groups the information needs to interpellate, in order to make sure that the information reaches those who can use it and activate it. Also, we need to be aware and careful not to become extractivist agents of information and knowledge(s), as well as not to instrumentalise the information we wish to socialise.

FUNCTION IN TE( N ) CUIDADO:

This tool has been key in the work of the ERTE Catalyst, helping to activate connections and networks around the use and utilisation of the wool of the Collserola sheep that is currently being thrown away. In this case, the socialisation of information turned into a publication of 200 copies that were distributed with the ethical courier cooperative Les Mercedes and by postal mail, to reach agents, organisations and spaces.
